Junior Council

American Ballet Theatre’s Junior Council is a group of young professionals between the ages of 21 and 40 who are dedicated to the celebration and support of ABT’s world-class artistry. The Junior Council helps ABT continue to present the highest caliber of dance and to expand ABT’s audience to younger generations to ensure the future of classical ballet.

ABT Women's Movement

This multi-year commitment supports the creation, exploration, and staging of new works by female choreographers for the main Company and Studio Company.

The ABT Women’s Movement gives female choreographers voice, opportunity, coaching and recognition at the highest levels, providing them with a supportive environment to create and national and international platforms to present new works.

"I will never forget the time I watched Gillian Murphy and Cory Stearns in a rehearsal of La Fille mal gardée trying to manipulate a long ribbon to make a cat’s cradle pattern. The first couple of times they became entangled in the ribbon, good-naturedly laughing at their initial fumbling. But a few more times and they had it down pat, and when they brought it to the stage in performance, it was seamlessly done. Once you have been to a studio rehearsal, you will never watch a performance the same way you did before. You will marvel all the more at the dancers’ accomplishments."

"I loved watching the Soloists (in this case Luciana Paris and Calvin Royal III) being coached in Don Quixote. More often I see either principals or the corps de ballet. I also enjoyed watching Clinton Luckett coach them. Calvin was rehearsing the role of the Toreador in Don Quixote and Clinton showed him how he could move the cape in a crisper and more dramatic fashion to enhance the dance."

"Gillian [Murphy] worked with Alban [Lendorf] in Le Corsaire, which he was not too familiar with. Kevin [McKenzie] was explaining and playing the slave at the same time, talking Alban through the dance, and while they were marking it, Gillian was humming the music, then whistling it, and then Kevin would explain again. This gave us such insight into the ballet."
