Special Giving Opportunities American Ballet Theatre's special giving opportunities are perfect for those wishing to develop a long-lasting and meaningful relationship with the Company, individuals wanting to honor a loved one or celebrate a special occasion such as an anniversary or birthday, or for those looking to expand their giving to the Company.
Gifts to ABT include, but are not limited to the following opportunities:
Sponsorships of Annual Productions
Since its founding, ABT has maintained an unwavering commitment not only to preserving the magnificent ballets of the past, but to nurturing and showcasing the talent of great modern innovators. Presenting ballets of the classical canon, as well as producing new works, is a tremendous collaboration that brings together some of the world’s finest dancers, choreographers, conductors, composers, musicians and designers.
Sponsorship gifts begin at $10,000 and can support a range of production needs in the following areas:
Dancer Sponsorships
ABT’s Dancer Sponsorship program was initiated in 2003 in recognition of the Company’s greatest asset: its glorious dancers. Whether choosing to recognize a Principal Dancer, Soloist, or corps de ballet member, your participation as a sponsor will ensure the professional and artistic growth of all of ABT’s dancers and tomorrow’s rising stars.
As a sponsor, you have the opportunity to develop a meaningful relationship with a dancer from one of the world’s most recognized ballet companies:
Dancer Training Program Support
To train the next generation of world-class artists, ABT must provide the finest instruction possible as well as the financial support necessary to young dancers so that they may focus solely on their training. Through contributions of scholarship and sponsorship funding, individuals have the opportunity to ensure the next generation’s artistic and technical capabilities and continue ABT’s long-standing legacy. Special Gift opportunities for the Dancer Training Programs include:
Scholarship support may also offer meaningful opportunities to create a legacy gift in memory or in honor of a loved one. The Special Needs Fund is an emergency fund that helps cover tuition, housing or unexpected expenses such as medical bills that a JKO student or Studio Company dancer may experience.
Friends of the JKO School
Friends of the JKO School is a special initiative to foster support for the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School at American Ballet Theatre by nurturing the next generation of dancers and contribute to the advancement of dance education in the New York metropolitan area, across the U.S., and around the world. Participation in Friends of the JKO School will further ABT's goal to ensure that every student has the opportunity to reach his or her highest potential.
Pointe Shoe Fund
Made by hand with materials such as satin, glue, and leather, pointe shoes are constructed with extreme precision. One pair of pointe shoes can cost between $75 and $100. They are designed to break down and mold to the foot of a dancer allowing for those breathtaking moments we see on stage during ABT performances.
But they don’t last long. Some pairs only last a single performance; others at most, one week of rehearsals. That’s why the Company spends over five hundred thousand dollars on pointe shoes each year.
From Myrta’s extraordinary bourrées in Giselle where she effortlessly glides across the stage, to the fierce execution required during the Black Swan pas de deux during Swan Lake, your tax-deductible donation will keep ABT's dancers gracefully on their toes.
Additional giving opportunities develop throughout the year. Special gifts can be made individually, in groups or by committees. Benefits are determined based on type of special gift, but include: Playbill recognition, invitations to Company rehearsals, backstage tours and more.
Please note: Special Gifts to ABT do not include membership gifts, as each special gift helps support specific programs critical to the mission of the Company.
