Of Love and Rage
This new production, with glorious sets and costumes by Jean-Marc Puissant that evoke ancient Greece, is scheduled to open at the Metropolitan Opera House, June 2, 2020.
Of Love and Rage is inspired by the story of star-crossed lovers Callirhoe and Chaereas. Callirhoe is widely adored as the most beautiful woman in the land, but her beauty becomes her curse as she and Chaereas navigate betrayal, conflict, and passion. The ballet, which will bear hints of the conflict of Romeo and Juliet and the deception of Othello, will be set to music by Aram Khachaturian, the composer of Spartacus. I invite you to be part of ballet history with your donation of $100 for Polycharmus’s belt. Help us fund an elaborate piece of Mithridates’s costume for $675! Or underwrite the Queen of Babylon’s glorious gown for $5,100! (See below). Since its inception in 2003, The Costume Fund has contributed to some of our most memorable productions. With the remarkable support of ABT’s steadfast patrons, the Fund has provided over $1 million towards the creation, revitalization and refurbishment of ABT’s costumes. Pay it forward for future artists and audiences and please make your gift now to The Costume Fund.
