In Memory of Doris Singleton Isaacs
Through her creations of characters, Carolyn Appleby of the Lucy shows, the Fraulein of Hogan’s Heroes, the ubiquitous plotting ingénue of Perry Mason, Hitchcock, and Twilight Zone episodes, Doris Singleton has a beloved place in American popular culture. In her heart, Doris Singleton Isaacs was always a ballerina, proudly relating that she “got her start” in the ballet. In 1937, eighteen year-old 'Dorothea' Singleton received the rare honor of becoming a member of the first corps de ballet of the brand new Ballet Theatre in New York City (later known as American Ballet Theatre).
Gifts made in memory of Doris Singleton will directly support the Doris Singleton Scholarship in the American Ballet Theatre Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School. The Scholarship provides full tuition support for a student in the Pre-Professional Division each year. The fund’s goal is to raise $50,000. Please consider supporting a young dancer who just happens to be the same age Doris was when she first laced up her pointe shoes at ABT. It will keep the legacy of Doris and her passion for the arts alive for years to come.
The Isaacs family would be honored by any donations made to ABT in her memory.
