Family and friends of Joan McDowell may make a donation in her memory on this page.

Joan McDowell was a lover and great supporter of the arts, a passion she shared with her family. In 1998, to honor the memory of her daughter, Sharyn McDowell Tolochko, Joan founded a professional training scholarship at American Ballet Theatre’s Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School in New York City. Since then, the endowed scholarship has helped provide nine young aspiring dancers with world-class pre-professional training, among them ABT soloist Misty Copeland.

Gifts made in memory of Joan McDowell will directly support The McDowell Scholarship, which provides full tuition support for a student in the Pre-Professional Division of ABT’s JKO School each year.

The McDowell family would be honored by any donations made to ABT in her memory.
